Ahead of the India release of "Amy", a biopic on late singer Amy Winehouse, her former manager Nick Shymansky has said that he only later realised that there was "depression" in her life.

"At times it would be very difficult, but most of the time she'd be so sweet and funny. There are lots of things though which I now look back on and think, that was a sign (of things to come).

"Once we were out in this really nice hotel in Miami, having the best time, and she came downstairs in a bad, bad mood, and she just kicked a metal chair and said, 'I'm in a really bad mood and I don't know why, I'm just really angry, and it's not your fault, I'm really sorry'," Shymansky said in a statement.

"Looking back years later, I realise that there was depression. That's something I learned from the film: Now It's very easy to look back, it's very hard to see things all around you at the time," Shymansky added.

Based on the much talked about yet mysterious life of popular musician, "Amy" is set to hit the Indian theatres on July 10. It is releasing under the Director's Rare category and will be distributed by PVR Pictures.

The biopic is directed by Asif Kapadia, and captures every emotion of Winehouse, who died by accidental alcohol poisoning in 2011. She was 27.
