A lesser known militant outfit, the National Liberation Front of Bengalis (NLFB), has claimed responsibility for planting three bombs in Assam, police said Thursday. All three bombs were defused.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered Wednesday from a coach of the Alipurduar-Kamakhya Intercity Express train at the Kamakhya railway station in Guwahati.
The second bomb was recovered near a mosque at Bijni, a small town in Chirang district. The bomb was fixed to a cycle abandoned near the mosque. Locals spotted the bomb and informed police.
Another bomb was found in a rice sack kept near a crowded place in Kokrajhar town. Police said the bomb was attached to a timer device.
"Three bombs were recovered yesterday (Wednesday) from different locations. We came to know that the NLFB has claimed responsibility for planting the bombs," said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A.P. Raut.
However, the explosives used in all three bombs were of low intensity, Raut said.
