On the first day of 2014, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) vice chairman Santosh Yadav Wednesday opened three flyovers in the city.
The three flyovers - at Dasna, Nehru Nagar and Karhera-Hindon Bridge - cost the GDA Rs.148 crore.
The Dasna flyover, built at a cost of Rs.64 crore, connects the city with National Highway-24 at Dasna. It has reduced the distance from the district headquarters to Dasna town to eight km.
The flyover has been opened on a trial basis one way for light vehicles.
Santosh Yadav said Uttar Pradesh's PWD Minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav would officially open the flyover, but the date has not been decided.
The Nehru Nagar flyover, built at a cost of Rs.52 crore, was also opened one way. It will benefit judicial officers of the upcoming residential colony at East Model Town from where they can reach civil courts without getting stuck in traffic. The second lane from the Nehru Nagar side would open soon.
The third project opened is the Karhera bridge which was in controversy due to diversion of water stream from the Hindon river to the west side facing the strategic Hindon Air Force station. Built at Rs.32 crore, it was opened for heavy and light vehicles both ways.
Santosh Yadav said efforts were on to construct this year a grade separator at the old trade tax post, an underpass near Sai Upwan, an elevated road at Meerut tri-junction, a flyover on National Highway-58 at ALT crossing, and an underpass connecting Vasundhara near Hindon cut.
