The driver of a school van was seriously injured and two school children slightly hurt after the vehicle caught fire Friday while dropping students home, police said.
According to police, the incident happened at Wazirganj area.
As the van (UP32 0020), with a dozen students of the prestigious St Francis College, reached the Shiksha Bhawan near Chowdhary Gadhiya, flames suddenly broke out, engulfing it in smoke. Passers-by rescued the students by breaking open the windows.
Two students - Aman Ali and Aditya - received minor injuries while the driver of the van, Sharad sustained serious burn injuries. Other students were taken to a nearby medical facility for first aid.
The fire was doused by local residents, who threw water on the van.
