Three people, including two women, were seriously injured in West Bengal's Siliguri district when acid was thrown on them by two unidentified assailants, police said Friday.
The incident happened Thursday night at Sevoke Road in Siliguri when two bike-borne assailants threw the acid at the victims who were travelling in a car, police said.
"Two women have received burn injuries on their face and hands while the driver too has suffered some burn wounds. They have been admitted to a hospital. The men, who threw the acid, are yet to be identified," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Siliguri) Tapan Mitra said.
Trinamool Congress MLA Rudranath Bhattacharya and Communist Party of India-Marxist leader and former state minister Asok Bhattacharya visited the victims at the hospital.
