Tamil Nadu on Thursday condemned the central government for permitting the Karnataka government to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for building a new dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu.
At a special session convened here, the Tamil Nadu Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution to this effect.
The resolution urged the central government to revoke the permission given by the Central Water Commission to the Karnataka government.
The resolution was moved by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami and proposed by Deputy Chief Minister and Leader of the House O. Panneerselvam.
Leaders of various parties said that the dam, if constructed, would affect the livelihood of farmers in Tamil Nadu.
