At least 65 people were killed when another massive earthquake shook Nepal on Tuesday, taking the total toll since the devastating April 25 temblor to 8,216, the home ministry said on Wednesday.

Cracked buildings collapsed in a heap of debris and landslides cut off roads as an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit Nepal, with its epicentre not far from Mount Everest -- the world's highest peak at 8,850 metres.

A total of 1,200 people were injured in Tuesday's quake.
