Toll rises to 45 in Philippines factory fire

The toll rose to 45 in a fire that broke out at a sandals factory in Valenzuela city in Metro Manila, capital of the Philippines, officials said on Thursday.

In a televised press briefing, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian said 26 people were still missing, Xinhua news agency reported.

The fire broke out at 11.28 a.m. on Wednesday at the warehouse along Sto Rosario street in Tatalon district in Ugong village. It was put out at 6.47 p.m.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
