Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday informed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that traffic decongestion in Delhi has been a priority area ever since he assumed office.
His remarks came after the Chief Minister wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary on major traffic bottlenecks in the city.
The LG in a letter to the Chief Minister also said that six task forces were constituted in January to identify congested corridors and suggest solutions for smooth flow of traffic.
Baijal said that the task forces had conducted field visits and studies and have submitted a list of 77 corridors, of which 28 were identified as Category A priority.
He added that encroachments on each of these areas have also been identified.
Five major corridors -- Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More), Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover), Savitri Flyover (Chirag Delhi crossing to Savitri Flyover), Sardar Patel Marg, (11 Murti to Rajokari Border) and Dhaula Kuan (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point) -- have also been identified for immediate action on pilot basis.
The LG said the Delhi High Court has also taken cognizance of the matter and given directions to take steps to ensure proper circulation and movement of traffic.
Kejriwal also met Baijal on Wednesday.
"Had good meeting with LG. Three decisions -- restart work of greening and landscaping PWD roads, paint all zebra and footpaths, redesign some roads," he tweeted later.
