At least five persons, including three women and two children, were killed on Monday morning when a speeding train mowed them down near a railway station in Bihar's Samastipur district, police officials said.
The Swatantrata Senani Express ran over five persons when they were crossing railway tracks near Rambhadrapur railway station on the Samastipur-Darbhanga route of the East-Central Railway after offering Chhath prayers, the officer said.
However, railway officials have not yet confirmed the number of deaths.
Angry over the incident, local residents along with Chhath devotees and the victims' families have blocked the railway tracks protesting and blaming railway officials for negligence.
