Trawler capsize: Six fishermen's bodies found, one missing

With the recovery of one more body early Wednesday, the toll in the trawler capsize in the Bay of Bengal has risen to six. One fisherman was still missing, a West Bengal minister said.

Five bodies were found Tuesday.

The bodies were found in the fishing trawler on the seas in the Ishwaripur area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, state's Sunderban Development Minister Manturam Pakhira told IANS.

"We found the sixth body early today (Wednesday). Despite the inclement weather, we are now searching the Muriganga river close to the Kakdweep area for the missing person," said Pakhira, who is with the rescue team.

The dead and missing fishermen were aboard a fishing vessel "Suryanarayan" that capsized Sunday near Jambu Island after it was caught in a storm.

The six bodies have been handed over to their families after post-mortem examination.

At least 40 fishing trawlers were reported missing in the Bay of Bengal following the storm. However, 38 of them were later traced at Odisha's Dharma port and West Bengal's Petua Ghat in East Midnapore district.

The remaining two trawlers -- "Maharudra" and "Suryanarayan" -- capsized. Luckily, all the 14 fishermen on "Maharudra" were rescued.
