A local Trinamool Congress leader was arrested for allegedly shooting dead a youth and injuring another, on Sunday while trying to flee from an accident site in West Bengal's Malda district.
According to a police complaint, Englishbazar Panchayat Samity chief Pabitra Roy allegedly opened fire from inside his vehicle when a mob chased it after it fatally knocked down a cyclist.
While 18-year-old Asim Mondal died on the spot, another boy accompanying him has been admitted to a hospital with a serious bullet injury.
"We have arrested Roy and seized a gun and his vehicle," said a police officer.
