A judge in Trinidad and Tobago has adjourned a hearing in the case against former FIFA vice president Jack Warner until July 27.

Warner, one of 14 sports executives indicted by the United States Justice Department in connection with an investigation of world football's governing FIFA, remains free on bail after being detained May 27 in Trinidad on an Interpol warrant issued at Washington's request, reports Efe.

The US, which has until July 26 to request Warner's extradition, has yet to submit a formal request.

At Thursday's court hearing here, special state prosecutor Allan Newman requested an adjournment until August 10 to allow time for the Trinidadian Attorney General's Office to review the documents US authorities are expected to send within the next 17 days.

Warner's attorneys, however, said the court should reconvene on July 27 to give them a chance to file for dismissal if the US government misses the deadline to request the former FIFA vice president's extradition.

Chief magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar scheduled the next hearing for July 27, while provisionally setting another session for August 10.

Warner, a 72-year-old businessman and politician, insists he is innocent of all charges.
