Senior IPS officer Akhil Kumar Shukla on Monday joined as Director General of Tripura Police, with incumbent police chief K. Nagaraj set to proceed on long leave, officials said here.
An official on condition of anonymity said that Nagaraj, an IPS officer of 1983 batch, would proceed on long leave soon and after he re-joins duty on completion of leave is likely to be given a new assignment.
"The 1986 batch IPS (Indian Police Service) officer Shukla before joining as Director General of Tripura police was Deputy Director of Intelligence Branch of the Union Home Ministry," the official said.
The Tripura cadre officer before going on central deputation worked in the northeastern state in different capacities.
