Members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Monday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of granting special powers over law and order in Hyderabad to the governor.

The central government, however, said the provision was in accordance with the act through which the state of Telangana was created.

The Centre had recently informed the Telangana government that the governor would have the final say in all matters of law and order, including transfer of top police officers in greater Hyderabad area.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled Monday the TRS members moved an adjournment motion to discuss the issue.

When the speaker disallowed the motion, they shouted slogans forcing a brief adjournment of the proceedings.

When the house reassembled, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan assured them that the issue would be allowed to be raised during Zero Hour.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Jitender Reddy of the TRS asked the government whether they were attempting to bring governor's rule in every state in the country.

Making a brief reply, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the Centre was committed to ensure that there was no tension in centre-state relations.

"We want the state's rights to be protected completely", he said.

However, he added that the provisions in the advisory were based on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act through which the state of Telangana was created.

The home minister read out portions from the act to substantiate his statement.

"The act has not been violated in any way," he said.
