Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar said Saturday that the government accepted the T.S.R. Subramanian Committee report on green laws "only for consideration," and deliberations over its recommendations still continue with experts.
Javadekar made the observation while interacting with women journalists at the Indian Women's Press Corps
"It's in the public domain and we are discussing its recommendations with experts and other people in the environment ministry," he added.
The minister said the committee was appointed to periodically review the intended benefits of environment protection measures, and recommend ways to remove bottlenecks, if any.
The high-level committee, constituted by the union ministry of environment, forests and climate change to review environment law in the country, proposed a new environment law management act that would set up a body of experts to evaluate the outcome of pro-environment measures and streamline the process of green clearances for development projects in the country.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forest Friday heard the reservations of environment experts who were weary that its recommendations might "weaken" the green laws.
