Two students from Congo and Sudan have been arrested here for alleged online frauds, police said on Tuesday.
The Cyber Crime Police apprehended Prince Kanyinda of Congo and Marwan Abdul Kareem of Sudan, who were hacking emails of some individuals and sending phishing mails to various IDs on their contact list requesting them to deposit money, citing some medical emergency.
According to police, 35-year-old Kanyinda and 25-year-old Kareem are students of technical networking and coding courses. Both were residing in Secunderabad.
Police on April 7 received a complaint from Chandra Sekhar that his mail ID has been hacked and it is being misused by the hackers. The accused had sent mails from his mail ID to many of his clients, asking to deposit money in the bank accounts provided by them. One of his clients had deposited Rs 50,000 in the bank account.
A police official said the two Africans who came to Hyderabad for further studies learnt hacking skills from various institutes. They formed a gang with David Davido Eiji, a Nigerian. They cracked into few Yahoo mail accounts and after gaining access into multiple Yahoo accounts and sent phishing mails to the various mail ids. They also opened multiple bank accounts to divert the money.
