The Delhi Police have arrested two persons for allegedly uprooting seven ATMs (automated teller machines) in the national capital and adjoining districts, said a police officer, here on Saturday.

"Narender (30) and his accomplice Deshraj (25), both natives of Rohtak in Haryana, were involved in uprooting ATMs and an assault on a police party. They were arrested following a tip-off on Friday night when they had come to meet friends in Nasirpur village of Delhi," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) G. Ram Gopal Naik.

"The accused targeted ATMs with no security guards. The duo, along with two other gang members -- Rohit and Ajay -- would remove ATMs with by using gas cutters and shift them to Kalawad in Rohtak," Naik said. "They would then dismantled ATMs and take cash out," he added.

"The gang was involved in several burglaries in September-October 2018. Seven such incidents were reported in the outskirts of Delhi, Gurugram and Rohtak," the DCP said.

Last year, Rohit and Deshraj also assaulted a constable after they were intercepted by a police vehicle in Najafgarh. Rohit was apprehended but Deshraj escaped.

The fourth member of the gang, Ajay, is absconding, the DCP said.
