Two bootleggers, including a woman, were arrested here on Sunday and about a dozen cartons of India-made foreign liquor seized from their possession, police said.
The woman, named Julie, and her brother Alok were arrested from their hideout in Site 4 industrial area in Sahibabad.
"Villagers of Karkari Mode near the border with Delhi had complained about the illegal sale of smuggled liquor from Haryana but no action was taken," said Ashish Rawal, a resident.
"Today (Sunday), over 1,000 villagers nabbed a woman with the stock of liquor and called police, who seized the liquor and took the woman and her brother into custody," he said.
Police Inspector Upendra Yadav of Link Road police station said: "We have arrested two people. An inventory is being prepared of the seized articles."
