Two cab drivers arrested for Kolkata minor's rape, murder

Two drivers of an online cab aggregator were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the rape and murder of a 12-year-old pavement dweller here.

Police claimed the duo - Shankar Shaw and Guddu Singh - picked up the girl from the pavement and forcibly put her into an Ola cab, and drove to the Park Circus flyover where they sexually assaulted her in the cab.

They later strangled her to death and threw the body into a canal.

The girl's body has been recovered from the canal and sent for post-mortem, police said.

Ola in a statement said it was saddened by reports of the alleged misbehaviour of a driver.

"On preliminary identification of the cab details shared by authorities, we have suspended the account associated with this cab with immediate effect.

"As per our records, this incident has not occurred while on the Ola platform. We will work with the authorities to share any information that will help support their investigation."
