Two students were dead and four injured in a shooting incident Friday morning at Marysville Pilchuck High School north of Seattle, a coastal seaport city, in Washington state, police said.
US authorities earlier confirmed that the lone shooter, a student of the school in Marysville, was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he opened fire on five other people in the school's cafeteria, Xinhua reported.
The four injured students were rushed to hospitals, three in critical condition.
The incident occurred at about 10.45 a.m. Live video pictures from the scene showed students were escorted by police officers out from school buildings.
The school has some 2,500 students.
Authorities "are confident that there is only one single shooter," Marysville police spokesman Robert Lamoureux told reporters, CNN reported.
