Two men commit suicide on metro tracks

A man in his 40s committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding metro train Wednesday afternoon, while another man died in a hospital after he jumped in front of a train and was injured Tuesday night, officials said.

Wednesday's incident took place around 3 p.m. at the Shahdara metro station in east Delhi.

"The man jumped in front of a metro train going towards Rithala in west Delhi. As soon as the train approached the Shahdara station, the man jumped on to the track," a metro official said.

Due to the incident, train services between Dilshad Garden and Rithala was delayed for 20 minutes, he said.

Police said the man was identified as Kailash. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Metro officials said this was the second incident within two days.

An unidentified man in his 30s also committed suicide at Noida Sector 18 station in Uttar Pradesh Tuesday night, a metro official said Wednesday.

The incident took place around 9.20 p.m. Tuesday but was made known to the media Wednesday.

"The man suddenly jumped in front of a metro train going towards Dwarka. He was badly injured and was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Tuesday night. No suicide note was found at the spot," the official said.
