A court in Bangladesh Tuesday sentenced two men to death for killing a 4-year old child after kidnapping her.
Chapai Nawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Kabita Khanom awarded the capital punishment to Shihab Reza, 24, and Sagar Ahmed, 24, bdnews24.com reported.
The judge also fined them 20,000 taka (about $ 260) each while acquitted another accused, Reza's brother Zahirul Islam, 38, as charges against him were not proved.
Reza is the cousin of Korban Ali, the father of the deceased child 'Kabita'.
According to case details, Reza and Ahmed strangulated Kabita and dumped her body inside a septic tank after kidnapping her Aug 30 last year.
But they removed the body and buried it in another place after two days when it started to decompose and spread stench.
Meanwhile, they had demanded 500,000 taka from Korban Ali as ransom. Kabita's family had paid them 25,000 taka via bKash, a mobile phone-based payment system.
Reza was arrested Sept 4 same year following prompt actions by Rapid Action Battalion and police after the family filed a complaint. Ahmed was arrested the same day.
Following their confessions the decomposed body of the child was recovered.
Her father filed a case at Sadar police station after the body was recovered. The chargesheet in the case was submitted Oct 31 last year.
The court Tuesday handed down the verdict following deposition of 19 witnesses.
Kabita's father Korban Ali expressed satisfaction over the verdict and hoped it would be executed very soon.
