Canberra/Jakarta, July 26 (IANS/WAM) The UAE's embassies in Australia, Indonesia and Thailand have distributed food to orphans and poor and underprivileged families as part of their annual charity programmes during the holy month of Ramadan.

In Jakarta, the embassy gave out food to orphans in coordination with the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

In Canberra, the embassy and the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils launched the iftar project, funded by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Red Crescent Authority, the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Sharjah Charity International.

The embassy and other Islamic groups are also implementing iftar projects in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

In Bangkok, the UAE embassy is involved in a project to distribute 30 tonnes of dates from the UAE Red Crescent Authority.

Mohammed Saleh Al Bahi Al Tunaiji, charge d'affaires at the embassy, said dates were distributed to schools, hospitals, mosques and Islamic complexes in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.
