Uganda has remained the top ranked football team in Africa's eastern region in the latest rankings released by the sports' world governing body in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

According to the FIFA rankings, Uganda remains dominant in the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), moving two places up to 71st with 464 points from the previous 73rd place in the global ranking, reports Xinhua news agency.

"We are happy that after our recent games against Egypt where we won one and lost the other we have improved in the FIFA rankings," Uganda interim coach Moses Basena told Xinhua.

Uganda Cranes beat Egypt 1-0 in a 2018 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup qualifier and lost by the same score away in Alexandria.

In the CECAFA region, Uganda remained the best placed, followed by Kenya who slipped by six places becoming 88th in the world.

Rwanda is now 118th and third in the CECAFA region, while Tanzania, Burundi and Sudan also improved in the rankings.

Egypt remained Africa's best ranked team and 30th with 866 points in the world ranking. Tunisia improved to 31st, while Senegal and Democratic Republic of Congo are 33 and 42 respectively.
