The UK Open University has honoured professor Asha S. Kanwar, one of the world's leading advocates of learning for development, for her "exceptional contribution to global education, social justice and human development".
Kanwar, president and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), was conferred with an honorary Doctor of the University degree by Open University vice chancellor Peter Horrocks.
Kanwar, whose specialty is open and distance learning, has previously been associated with Unesco.
Noting that the UK Open University has always been a symbol of quality, Kanwar said that to receive recognition from it "is something truly special".
