The United Nations' World Food Programme's (WFP) executive director gave a call for more funds to support the Iraqi and Afghan refugees in Iran.
"We share this (Iranian) government's concern about the insufficient funding of World Food Programme in this country (Iran), " Xinhua quoted Ertharin Cousin, the Executive Director of WFP, as saying.
"The programme does not fully meet the food needs of the Iraqi and Afghan refugees in the Islamic republic", she said while calling for international community to increase their support for the UN mission in Iran.
Cousin also praised Iran for "holding one of the largest and the most protracted refugee population in the world."
She arrived Monday here for a two-day visit. During her stay, she met a number of governmental officials, donors and visited a refugee settlement which the WFP has been providing with food assistance for years.
