Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Tuesday said he was unsatisfied with the punishment given to the juvenile in the Dec 16, 2012 Delhi gang rape case.

Jung said there was a need to revisit the relevant law.

The juvenile involved in the gang rape of a 23-year-old paramedical student was sentenced to three years in a reform home by the Juvenile Justice Board, as he was a minor at the time of committing the crime.

"I am a little unsatisfied with the quantum of punishment that the juveniles has got. The idea of law fundamentally is that the people should get a sense of justice and if people do not get a sense of justice by the implementation of law, then the law needs to be looked at," the Lt. Governor told reporters here.

The maximum punishment that can be given under the Juvenile Justice Act in India is three years.

"I agree with the lowering of the age of juvenile to 16 from 18, as the kids these days grow faster," Jung said.

He said the country must focus on fast track courts to dispense fast justice, and that he would work to make the capital safe for girls.

The punishment given by the board has been criticised and protested by people, as the juvenile was said to be the most brutal of the six accused in the gang rape.
