UP cabinet okays first phase of Lucknow Metro rail

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Thursday gave the go-ahead to the first phase of the ambitious Metro rail project for the state capital Lucknow.

At a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister, the first phase, to be known as the North-South corridor, was approved, a government spokesman said.

Briefing media persons after the meeting, the official said the alignment and route of the Metro rail project has also been finalised and the route would initially be from the Chaudhary Charan Singh Amausi Airport to Munshi Puliya.

The project will be jointly undertaken by state government agencies and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and funds for the purpose are being arranged, officials said.

In another significant decision, the state cabinet also okayed the commissioning of 1,000 additional ambulances under a 102 Emergency Service through a private service provider.
