UP Police launches technology-based services

The Uttar Pradesh police Saturday launched six new technology based services and projects for the welfare of the people, officials said.

Named 'Lost Items Report Service', 'Tatpar', 'Social Media Lab', 'Drishti', 'Samman' and 'Unnayan', the services were launched by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who lauded the work of the police and said that the state government would never be found wanting in its efforts to modernise and better equip the force.

Urging the police officials to cut the response time by better use of modern technology and IT support, Yadav said many schemes and projects launched by the state police had found favour with union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who had appreciated the initiatives.

The chief minister gave a thumbs up to the law and order situation in the state.

Director General of Police Arun Kumar Gupta gave brief details of the new services and said under the 'Lost Item Report Service' people can now, through mobile or Internet, report loss of mobiles, passport and other documents from their homes and will get a digitally signed acknowledgement without having to come to the police station.

Under 'Tatpar', with the press of a button, registered institutions can call for help from the three nearest police stations. The 'Social Media Lab' project aims to curb the use of social media to spread rumours.

Under the 'Drishti' project, 280 cameras are being installed at 70 locations in Lucknow. A soft launch of this project was done Saturday. Under the 'Samman' scheme, 2 CCTVs will be installed in each police station, including GRP station, of the state.

As a pilot project, cameras have already been installed in Ghazipur, Hazratganj, Mahanagar and Naka police stations in Lucknow district.

Gupta further said that under the 'Unnayan' project, existing police stations will be modernised. In the first phase Chowk, Husainganj and Ghazipur police stations of Lucknow will be taken up.
