UP result will end politics of caste: Amit Shah (Third Lead)

Elated over the sweeping BJP win, party President Amit Shah on Saturday said the results will end the politics of "caste, dynasty politics and appeasement".

"The historic mandate given to the BJP will give a new direction to Indian politics. It will change the course of Indian politics in the coming days. It will end the politics of caste, dynasty (parivaarvaad) and appeasement," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader told the media here.

"Voters of Uttar Pradesh have rejected the politics of caste, of family one-upmanship and appeasement. They have voted for performance-based politics and governance," Shah added.

He said the BJP will form the governments in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur and the new Chief Ministers will be decided on Sunday by the BJP Parliamentary Board. Modi will address the BJP leaders at the party headquarters here on Sunday evening.

He said he was glad that people gave such a massive mandate to the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after independence.

"Even the opposition will have to accept Modi, who has emerged as the most popular leader post independence," he added.

"We will welcome Modi ji tomorrow (Sunday) at 6 p.m. After that, the BJP Parliamentary Board will meet. At that meeting, we will decide who will lead the governments in the four states," Shah said.

Shah refused to comment on Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati's allegation that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were "managed" to facilitate his party's win. She also termed the Uttar Pradesh election results "very surprising".

She said her party has asked the Election Commission to cancel the results in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

"I can understand the mental condition of Mayawati. But I will not comment on her remarks," Shah said when asked about the allegations.
