Uruguay to air national team's matches in stadium setting at main airport

Uruguay's main Carrasco International Airport will air live broadcasts of all matches played by the Uruguay national team in the 2018 Russia World Cup in a stadium-like setting.

The airport authority said on Thursday in a statement that giant screens are located in both the arrivals and departures terminals in the complex on the outskirts of capital city Montevideo, reports Efe

Bleachers have been installed in the areas "to make fans feel as if they were in a football stadium," the statement added.

A part of the airport's roof was illuminated in blue to honor the Uruguayan team, colloquially known as La Celeste, which will play its first match in the 2018 World Cup against Egypt on Friday.

Hundreds of people on Saturday bade farewell to the team, which departed on a chartered flight to Nizhny Novgorod in western Russia, where the team's training base is located.

Uruguay will play in Group A alongside Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In the group stage's opening match on Thursday, the host team beat Saudi Arabia 5-0.
