US golfer Moss takes clubhouse lead in Malaysia tourney

US golfer Greg Moss produced a sparkling back nine for a commendable 66 to share the second round clubhouse lead with the Thai duo of Ratchapol Jantavara (69) and Pijit Petchkasem (70) on the second day of the PGM MIDF KLGCC Championship at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club's East course here on Thursday.

The leading trio have a two-day total of five-under-par 137. Thailand's Nattapong Putta posted a 69 to trail them by two shots while local favourite Nicholas Fung signed for a second straight 70 to stay a further shot back on 140.

Indian golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu was joint second in the opening round after firing a 67 on Wednesday. But he was unable to complete the second round on Thursday due to inclement weather. He shares the second spot with the Thai duo of Poom Saksansin and Pijit Petchkasem, US golfer Sam Cyr and Janne Kaske of Finland.

Sandhu will complete his round when play resumes on Friday.

After having his opening round disrupted by heavy rain on Wednesday, Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit leader Casey O'Toole returned on Thursday morning to complete his remaining 10 holes before signing for a six-under-par 65.

The 25-year-old American was standing at seven-under through 16 holes in the second round when thunderstorms brought play to a halt at the $50,000 event.

Local lad M. Sasidaran, who was the overnight leader with 65, has yet to tee off in the second round.

"The game is good. I played well yesterday. I got off to a great start (yesterday) where I made three birdies and one eagle to get to five-under in four holes starting from the fourth. Today, I was just trying to pick up from where I left off. The course is in a great condition," O'Toole, who had chipped in from 50 feet for an eagle-three on sixth in his opening round, said after the end of the day's play.

With the Olympic Games looming in 2016 where golf will be reintroduced as a medal sport, players in the region could earn their tickets to Rio de Janeiro by earning Official World Golf Ranking points through the Asian Tour and ADT.
