Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Zheng Jie made a wining start in the women's doubles event at the US Open tennis tournament here Thursday.

Sania and Zheng dispatched German Annika Beck and Puerto Rican Monica Puig in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2 on court 16 of the USTA National Tennis Center here.

The 10th seeds next play the Hungarian-American combine of Katalin Marosi and Megan Moulton-Levy.

Sania and Zheng come to Flushing Meadows high on confidence after winning the New Haven title last week.

Other Indians competing in the doubles event - Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Divij Sharan - open their campaign with different partners later Thursday.
