The Uttar Pradesh government has rushed a team of doctors along with relief materials to earthquake-hit Nepal, an official said on Monday.
The relief materials were sent on late Sunday in 21 trucks, of which 10 trucks were carrying biscuits and food material, 10 mineral water, and one emergency medicines.
Doctors from the King George's Medical University here have also been dispatched to the quake-hit areas of the Himalayan nation.
Most of the doctors are orthopaedic surgeons as a large number of the injured people have suffered fractures, an official told IANS.
The health department has been put on high alert and the railway hospital at Gorakhpur has been vacated for readying it up for any contingency, the official added.
Director General of Health Vijaya Laxmi asked all chief medical officials in the state to remain alert and ensure that medicines are well stocked in case of any emergency.
As a precaution, all schools up to Class 12 have been shut in the state for two days.
