Aditya Ghildiyal of Srinagar, Garhwal, topped the merit list in Class 12 while Kumari Aisha Gauri of Vijay Nagar, Rudraprayag, stood first in the Class 10 merit list of the Uttarakhand Board examinations results for which were declared on Tuesday, an official said.
Aditya Ghildiyal of Saraswati Vidhya Mandir Inter-College, Srikot Ganganali, in Srinagar, Garhwal, secured 95 per cent marks in the Class 12 exams while Kumari Aisha Gauri of MP Inter-College, Vijay Nagar, Rudraprayag, secured 98.4 per cent marks in the Class 10 exams to stand first the merit list.
Director of Secondary Education R.K. Kunwar said 73.67 per cent students who appeared for the 2017 Class 10 board have passed.
Girls have fared better with 78.51 per cent of them passing the exams as compared to the boys of whom just 68.66 per cent have passed.
A total of 2,87,231 students were registered for the boards this year of which 2,81,763 wrote the exams. Of this 1,50,573 appeared for the Class 10 exams and 1,31,190 took the Class 12 exams.
Board officials said there was a slight improvement in the results this time.
While in 2016, the pass percentage of high school was 73.47, in 2017 it is 73.67. The pass percentage for Class 12 improved from 78.41 per cent to 78.89 per cent.
This year, too, girls performed better than boys. The percentage of girls who passed this year in Class 12 was 82.07, while that of the boys was 75.56.
