France defender Raphael Varane is to wear the captain's arm band during his national team's upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup match against Denmark, saying on Monday it was an honour to do so.
The 25-year-old Real Madrid player is to replace goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who will not start in Tuesday's game, reports Efe.
"It is a sign the coach (Didier Deschamps) is confident in me. It is a responsibility that I have already taken other times with the same pride," Varane said during a press conference.
France currently leads Group C with six points after beating Australia 2-1 and Peru 1-0, while Denmark holds the second spot with four points.
