Brazil football club Vasco da Gama are considering a bid for former Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme.

The 36-year-old is a free agent after ending a six-month spell with Argentinos Juniors last month, reports Xinhua.

Vasco have joined Sport Recife, Colo-Colo, Montreal Impact and Boca Juniors in the battle to sign Riquelme.

The former Barcelona and Villarreal playmaker is said to have requested a monthly salary of about $140,000.

Riquelme was capped 51 times and scored 17 goals in an international career from 1997 to 2008.
