Veteran Gandhian and freedom fighter Ho Srinivasaiah of Karnataka passed away here on Thursday after a brief illness. He was 93.
Srinivasaiah breathed his last earlier in the day at a state-run hospital in the city's southern suburb. He leaves behind a daughter, an official said.
Srinivasaiah was Chairman of Gandhi Bhavan and President of the Kranataka Gandhi Samarak Nidhi, with which he was associated for over four decades.
"Not many know that Srinivasaiah was a mechanical engineer and worked some time in Germany," said the official.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: "Srinivasaiah, who dreamt of making Karnataka free from alcohol and drugs, died before his dream could become a reality."
Srinivasaiah was popular for his simplicity and austere life.
