In a bid to reduce transmission and distribution loss among power distribution companies in the state, the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) on Friday signed an MoU with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to conduct a feasibility study.
In presence of State Power Minister Sovandeb Chatterjee, the MoU was signed between WBERC Secretary J.C. Chakraborty and KEPCO General Manager Moon Taeok.
"The Korean company will submit its report in a month based on which a roadmap will be prepared. We can keep tariff low ifAT&D lossAis managed properly. The loss is high for WESEDCL and CESC," said Chatterjee.
The Korean power company will identify areas where it can bring innovation to reduceT&D losses.
Commission's Chairman R N Sen said West Bengal is the first state in the country to conduct such a study with its help.
The Korean company will carry out a research on the distribution facilities and inform the Commission about the results, including the actual reasons, said Commission's Deputy Director T.K. Mukherjee.
The study would be free and not entail any cost, he said.
