Wells Fargo, an American multinational banking and financial services company, has made a $100,000 grant to provide flood relief and rehabilitation in the Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh areas in north India.
Wells Fargo also is temporarily waiving all remittance transfer fees for 'ExpressSend' transfers from a linked checking or savings account for customers sending money using the ExpressSend service to friends and family in India impacted by the floods, according to a media release.
The fee waiver is effective until July 31. Additionally, the company is also mobilising team member contributions across its India businesses.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all the individuals and families affected by the recent flooding," said Daniel Ayala, head of Wells Fargo Global Remittance Services.
"We hope that our contribution will help assist with the relief and rebuilding efforts and that our customers will take advantage of our fee waiver to send support to their friends and families back home."
Heavy rainfall during the week of June 20-26, 2013, led to extensive flooding, landslides, and destruction to property and lives in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand with a very important Hindu pilgrimage site.
Wells Fargo is committed to corporate social responsibility and runs regular programmes and interventions in various countries, including India, the San Francisco based company said.
Wells Fargo India Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Company, was founded in August 2006 in Hyderabad.
The grant has been made through United Way Worldwide under a programme which enables Wells Fargo to provide grants to local non-profit organizations in the communities outside of the United States where its team members live and work.
