Werder Bremen football club's director for Sporting Thomas Eichin was replaced with Frank Baumann on Thursday.

After securing the top-flight status on the final match day of the Bundesliga football season, Bremen started their repositioning for the next campaign as Eichin has been replaced with former team captain Frank Baumann with immediate effect, reports Xinhua news agency.

"We want to thank Thomas for the past three years. He has made important contributions and stabilized Bremen in a difficult period," Bremen chairman of the supervisory board Marco Bode said.

"However, in recent talks different views on our sportive alignment for the future came to light. We decided therefore to give the responsibility into other hands."

Baumann, who is currently in charge of professional soccer and scouting in Bremen, will take the helm in the next few days.

The 40-year-old former defender Baumann played from 1999 until 2009 for the "Green-Whites" and was the team captain for nine years.

After his professional career he joined Bremen's management under Klaus Allofs.

"I gladly take responsibility again at Werder Bremen," incoming sporting director Baumann said.

Bremen secured their Bundesliga status with a 1-0 victory over Frankfurt to complete the season 2015-2016 on the 13th place of the standings.
