The national capital experienced a chilly Tuesday as sporadic rain along with icy winds led the maximum temperature to plummet seven degrees below the season's average to 14.7 degrees Celsius. More showers are expected Wednesday.
"The skies will remain overcast tomorrow (Wednesday) and parts of the city will witness light rains," said an official of the India Meteorological Department.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 15 and 12 degrees Celsius," added the official.
Delhiites woke up to an overcast Tuesday morning and the day saw incessant minimum temperature recorded three notches above the season's average at 10.2 degrees Celsius.
Some people took shelter under metro stations, flyovers and foot-over bridges, caught unexpected by the sudden showers.
"The day was gloomy but the rain was not expected. I am totally drenched in a five-minute rickshaw ride from the metro station to office," said Riedh Sarkar, who works in an IT firm in Gurgaon.
For many people, the weather was an excuse to visit popular markets for a hot cup of tea or coffee or even an ice-cream.
Monday's maximum temperature was recorded at 22.3 degree Celsius, a notch above the season's average, while the minimum temperature was 9 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
