Will turn Seemandhra into Singapore: Chandrababu

TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu Friday termed the victory of his party in Seemandhra as "people's victory" and vowed to develop the state like Singapore.

The Telugu Desam Party leader thanked the people for backing the TDP-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and assured them that he would fulfill all the electoral promises.

"We have a huge responsibility to rebuild the state and turn it into a Singapore," he told reporters after trends showed that the alliance was heading for a majority in the 175-member state assembly.

Naidu, who was chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, said he would take oath as the chief minister of Seemandhra or Andhra Pradesh as the state would be known from Jan 2.

The TDP president was also happy over the performance of his party in Telangana, where it won four assembly seats and was ahead in 11 other constituencies.

"Some people made all attempts to finish the TDP. They used money power and other means but people supported us," Naidu said.

Claiming that he developed Hyderabad into an economic hub, the TDP leader said his party in Telangana would make efforts to ensure that the benefits of development reach the people.
