Auckland, Dec 26 (IANS/CMC) The West Indies defeated New Zealand by two wickets in the first of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the Eden Park here Thursday.

Chasing 157, the visitors managed to reach the target in 27.3 overs.

The next match will be played Dec 29 at McLean Park, Napier.

Brief scores: New Zealand 156 all out in 42.1 overs (Brendon McCullum 51, Nathan McCullum 47, Corey Anderson 13; Dwayne Bravo 4/44, Jason Holder 2/21, Ravi Rampaul 2/27) lost to West Indies 157/8 in 27.3 overs (Darren Sammy 43 not out, Lendl Simmons 34, Darren Bravo 14; Mitchell McClenaghan 5/58, Kyle Mills 2/37, James Neesham 1/35).
