Berlin, July 24 (IANS/EFE) German side VfL Wolfsburg has signed Peruvian defender Carlos Ascues for a three-year contract until 2018, the Bundesliga club announced.
Ascues, 23, moved from Peruvian side FBC Melgar as the two clubs confidentially agreed on the amount of the transfer on Thursday.
"Carlos Ascues is a versatile player who has so far played predominantly as a defender, but he has already shown he can make his mark going forward," Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs said.
He added that the Peruvian international is a young player who has not reached the end of his evolution and can continue progressing in Germany.
Coach Dieter Hecking said the club was looking for backups to the central defensive position and Ascues fits the profile of play that he intends to follow.
