A woman allegedly committed suicide in Ukhari area of Jabalpur district on Thursday morning after heated exchanges with her husband over the issue of "intolerance", police said.
Police said Sonam Pandey had a quarrel with her husband Ayank on the issue before she consumed poison and took her own life.
Ayank told reporters that the couple had a heated discussion on the issue of "intolerance" after reading Bollywood star Aamir Khan's statement in a morning newspaper.
He said Sonam later went to her room. After some time, he claimed, he forced her room's door open and saw her drinking lots of water and complaining of dizziness.
She was taken to hospital, where she died.
Kotwali police station chief Praful Srivastava said police were investigating the incident.
