A woman was fired upon during an altercation at a kangaroo court in West Bengal's Birbhum district, the state police said on Friday.
The police said residents of Gheedaha village in Bolpur held a meeting on Thursday night on the issue of separation of a Muslim couple married for the last one year.
An altercation broke out between the families of the couple.
"A woman present at the village meeting was shot in the leg during the altercation between the families of the couple," an officer from Bolpur police station said.
The injured woman was admitted to a hospital in Bolpur. No one has been arrested so far.
