World Egg Day will be observed on Friday to increase awareness about the food item's nutritional benefits, an official statement said.

The animal husbandry department, which is organising the event in coordination with the agriculture ministry, said it felt the need of observing the day as though India is the third biggest producer of eggs, it lacks per capita availability of eggs.

The day will also be used to promote the nutritional benefits of eggs to benefit children. Egg Day will also be observed at Tihar Jail with active involvement of inmates and officials.
