Youth gets life imprisonment in gang rape case

In a significant judgment, a court here on Wednesday sentenced a youth to life imprisonment and three others for 20 years in a gang rape case.

The court sentenced main accused N. Sairam to life imprisonment. Three others Deepak, Abhilash Kumar and Abdul Khader were sentenced for 20 years each. Another accused Durga Prasad was sentenced for three years.

Since the sixth accused in the case is a minor, the court transferred his case to a juvenile court.

The incident had occurred on August 23, 2014 in Vijayawada when the group of youngsters had raped the girl after giving her drinks laced with sleeping pills.

The accused had also taken pictures of the victim and shared them on social media. Police registered a case after the victim came forward and lodged a complaint.

All the accused were convicted and the court on Wednesday pronounced the sentence.
